Make it yours

Choose an atmosphere, simplify your workspace, and make everyday actions comfortable.

Themes and appearance

Open Settings → Theme to choose a built-in family. Then choose System, Light, or Dark under Appearance. Each family includes matching light and dark palettes.

Try Workbench for a balanced default, Terminal for a precise monospace feel, or Editorial for warmer paper and serif reading typography. The theme changes the interface, not your files.

Reading and editing preferences

Use Monospace text for uniform text sizing, and choose off, absolute, or relative line numbers. Indent nested sections controls indentation in reading view. Hide editor footer hides the save and cursor status bar.

On macOS, Merge tabs with title bar controls whether the tabs share the native window title area. Layouts and sidebar widths stay local to your device.

Shortcuts and Vi mode

In Settings → Keyboard shortcuts, search for an action, select its binding, and press the keys you want. You can clear bindings or restore defaults.

Enable Vi mode for modal editing. Notes start in Normal mode; i enters Insert mode and Esc returns to Normal. See keyboard shortcuts for the everyday controls.

Custom CSS

Paste CSS into Settings → Custom theme CSS and choose Apply custom CSS. Clearing it returns to the selected built-in treatment. Custom CSS is stored locally.

Which settings travel?

Most preferences are device-local. With Sync configured, you can opt into sharing selected categories in Shared workspace settings. Enable the same categories on each device.

Keybindings, Vi mode, pane layouts, sidebar widths, and custom CSS stay local. See sharing preferences.
