What the Sync preview includes
The app works offline for free. Hosted Sync is an optional subscription: $5/month or $48/year USD, with 1 GB including retained encrypted revision history. It currently handles one workspace of Org notes.
- Notes sync while the apps are open and connected.
- Mobile catches up when reopened; it does not sync while closed.
- Attachments and empty folders are not synced yet.
- History cleanup is not available yet.
- iPhone and iPad builds are not yet installable.
Subscriptions renew automatically. Manage or cancel through your Sync account.
Connect your first device
- Open the local workspace you want to sync.
- Create a Sync account and choose a subscription for hosted Sync.
- In the app, open Settings → OrbitalNote Sync. Leave the service set to hosted OrbitalNote Sync.
- Choose Sign in to OrbitalNote. Approve the device code in your browser, then return to the app. If needed, choose Check sign-in.
- Create an encrypted workspace from this local folder and save the recovery key.
Connect another device
- Install OrbitalNote and open the workspace you want to connect.
- Sign in to the same Sync account in Settings.
- Enter the recovery key from the first device into the app’s recovery-key field.
- Choose Connect this folder.
- Leave both apps open and connected while they catch up. Check the Sync status, then open a note on the second device.
Connecting combines the local notes with that encrypted workspace. Conflicting versions are preserved; review any conflict copies before deleting them.
Share selected preferences
In Settings → Shared workspace settings, choose the categories you want to share on each device: appearance; calendar/tag colors and time format; or supported editor display preferences.
Enable the same categories on the other device. These settings travel in a dedicated .orbitalnote.org file through your configured Sync connection. Keybindings, Vi mode, layouts, credentials, and custom CSS stay local.
Use your own Sync server
Choose Sync service → Self-hosted server and enter your server’s HTTPS origin. Self-hosted accounts do not need a hosted subscription.
Server setup and administration are covered in the self-hosting guide. Disconnect before changing Sync services.
If notes aren’t arriving
Check that both apps are open, signed in, and connected to the same encrypted workspace. Read the Sync status for connection or storage errors. Attachments will not appear because they are outside the current Sync scope.
