Source and reading view
Write in the formatted source editor, then switch to reading view with the book/pencil control or Cmd/Ctrl + E. Headings, lists, tables, local images, math, and Mermaid diagrams can appear in the reading view.
Notes save as you work. The footer shows save status, cursor position, and Vi status when enabled. You can also save with Cmd/Ctrl + S.
Org source blocks are displayed, not executed. OrbitalNote does not run Babel code.
Headings and folding
Use headings to separate topics and nested headings for supporting details. Click a fold arrow to collapse a heading or nested list. Folding changes the view, not the file.
Hold Cmd on macOS or Ctrl on Windows/Linux while clicking a fold control to fold or unfold recursively. A normal click preserves descendant fold choices.
Use File actions → Fold all or Unfold all for a whole note. Jump to heading (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + O) finds a section and reveals it if folded.
Link your notes
Use Insert link and choose an existing note to generate a relative file link. You can also type a link directly:
[[file:Projects.org][My projects]]
[[file:Projects.org::*Next steps][Next steps]]
[[https://orgmode.org][About Org]]In source view, follow bracketed links with Cmd-click on macOS or Ctrl-click on Windows/Linux. In reading view, click the link normally. The local graph helps you see linked neighbors and backlinks.
Keep context side by side
Drag tabs to split the window, or use an open note’s File actions → Split right / Split down. You can open another view of the same file, with independent scrolling, folds, and reading/source mode.
Both views share the same edits. Keep a reading view beside the source, or your agenda beside a project note. Use Focus on heading in heading actions to work with one subtree; Show whole file returns to the complete note.
Find and replace
Use Cmd/Ctrl + F to find in a note and Cmd/Ctrl + Alt + F for replacement. Match case, whole word, regular expressions, and selection-only search are available.
For workspace-wide discovery, use Search, Tags, or Cmd/Ctrl + O to find a file by name. Cmd/Ctrl + P opens the command palette.
