Get unstuck

Start with the symptom, preserve your work, and find the right next step.

The app won’t open

Check that you downloaded the correct platform and processor build and extracted the archive. On macOS, check Privacy & Security after the first launch attempt. On Windows, confirm WebView2 is installed. On Linux, check GTK4 and WebKitGTK 6.0 dependencies.

See installation for platform-specific instructions. Keep the exact error message if you need to ask for help.

I can’t find my notes

Check which workspace is open. On desktop, your notes live in the folder you selected, not inside the app. Use your file manager to confirm the files are there, then reopen that folder.

On Android, distinguish the private notebook from a linked folder. If a linked folder loses permission, grant access again. Uninstalling the app deletes the private notebook.

A file conflict or save error appears

Keep the app open while preserving your unsaved work. Use Save a separate copy when offered, or copy the current text to a safe file before reloading.

Check folder permissions, free storage, and whether another editor changed the same file. Compare the versions before choosing what to keep. Reloading from disk discards the unsaved buffer after confirmation.

Sync isn’t updating another device

  1. Open both apps and check that each device has a network connection.
  2. Read the Sync status in Settings. Confirm sign-in has completed and the hosted subscription is active if applicable.
  3. Confirm both folders were connected using the same workspace recovery key.
  4. Check what you are syncing: the current preview transfers Org notes, not images, other attachments, or empty folders.
  5. Review conflict copies if edits happened on both devices while offline.

Do not paste your recovery key into a support message. The website and support do not need it. If you lost the key but a connected device still has it, check Show recovery key in that device’s Sync settings.

A task is missing from the planner

Clear filters, check the date range, and verify the task’s state and timestamps. A checkbox list item is not an independent agenda heading. Future repeating occurrences are projections of the underlying task.

See planner troubleshooting and task basics.

Ask a question or report a bug

Ask in GitHub Discussions, join Discord, or email [email protected].

For a bug, open a report with your app version, operating system, steps to reproduce, and what you expected. A small example Org file is useful when the issue depends on content. Remove private notes and credentials before sharing.
